High Life

High Life

Between the artist name, album name, and cover art, you can pretty much guess what the subject matter here will revolve around. Production-wise, it's a mixed bag, with minimalist funk, skittering snares, and plenty of big synths creating tracks that are fairly catchy if blatantly unoriginal. "1983" benefits from faux-scratching, and "Weedend Jumpoff" slows down the pace with a nice subdued bass line. Detox's flow is slow and steady, as he drops rhymes about partying, females, and West Coast superiority. It's perfect if you're in the mood for mid-level Cali mob music.
